More About Evaluations

Songwriting

Admission by Teacher Approval. Admission by evaluation for competency on an instrument (e.g. guitar, piano) and carrying a melody vocally. Students must have a basic understanding of chord structures and beginner theory. The goal of this class is to equip songwriters of all levels with foundational tools to write in any genre and expand their palate of songwriting. We will study and work on creating strong and interesting melodies, song and rhyme structures, as well as the accompaniment. We will be talking through some pop theory that will add diversity in sound to the songwriting process. A portion of the class study will be on how to write for a diverse body of people in the church with theologically sound lyrics. Expect weekly class assignments with a songwriting showcase at the end of each semester.
